چکیده
Electoral systems in which voters can cast preference votes for individual candidates within a party list are increasingly popular. To the best of our knowledge, there is no research on whether and how scale used to evaluate affect electoral behavior results. In this paper, we analyze data from an original voting experiment leveraging real-life political preferences embedded nationally representative online survey Austria. We show that by makes differences. For example, possibility give up two points advantages male because more likely ‘zero points’ female candidates. Yet pattern does not exist system positive negative seem reluctant actively withdraw thus encourage constitution makers think carefully about design voting.

Preference Aggregation and Voting
In this lecture, we analyze the aggregation of diverse preferences. This enterprise proves a sobering experience and will make us question the efficacy of democracy. We uncover mostly troubling phenomena as a result of aggregating diverse preferences. We might first ask why we might want to aggregate preferences. The simple reason is that there are many decisions and actions whose implications ...
متن کاملDesigning Voting Machines for Verification
We provide techniques to help vendors, independent testing agencies, and others verify critical security properties in direct recording electronic (DRE) voting machines. We rely on specific hardware functionality, isolation, and architectural decision to allow one to easily verify these critical security properties; we believe our techniques will help us verify other properties as well. Verific...

A deliberative committee is a group of at least two individuals who rst debate about what alternative to choose prior to these same individuals voting to determine the choice. We argue, rst, that uncertainty about individuals private preferences is necessary for full information sharing and, second, demonstrate in a very general setting that the condition under which unanimity can support fu...

The empirical evidence on voting behavior suggests that the individuals’ choice of the vote is explained, among other things, by policy issues and the voters’ partisan preferences over the party that rules the government. The evidence also indicates that the voters’ partisan preferences are the best predictor of the choice of the vote (Republican and Democratic voters tend to vote, respectively...
متن کاملVoting Systems that Combine Approval and Preference
Information on the rankings and information on the approval of candidates in an election, though related, are fundamentally different—one cannot be derived from the other. Both kinds of information are important in the determination of social choices. We propose a way of combining them in two hybrid voting systems, preference approval voting (PAV) and fallback voting (FV), that satisfy several ...
